That’s right, the Liberals have called for the National Defence Committee to reconvene to examine the decision to “sole-source” the $16 billion fighter jet contract. An interesting note: according to the Liberal press release, the “future Liberal government will put a hold on the Harper government’s $16-billion sole-sourced fighter jet contract, and will immediately call for the House of Commons Defence Committee to reconvene as soon as possible to examine the government’s secretive, unaccountable decision to proceed with this contract.” You read it right. They said future Liberal government. Not if, but when.
There has to be an election soon, not because the Liberals need to get in, but because this minority cannot last forever and you can hear it in the Liberal's words, "...government's secretive, unaccountable decision..." push is coming to shove and Harper cannot smooth everything over forever. Look for some more harsh words as the Liberals are trying to force an election this fall. After all, as stated in the article, "the future Liberal government" believes their time is now.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, the Liberals have been using words like this for months. They have been criticizing the Cons over almost every move, and yet they continue to support them in the House. Why? They are afraid of an election. They know that they will not win. A good example of this was just the other day when there were enough opposition Senators to send the budget back to the House, triggering an election. The conservatives even announced that 5 of their Senators wouldn't be there to vote. The Liberals respond by ensuring that 7 Liberal senators don't show up. They know they only get the opportunity for an election every few year because if they call it too soon, the public loses faith in them.
